A Compact Fireball Model of Gamma Ray Bursts
نویسنده
چکیده
It is proposed that the gamma ray burst photons near the peak of the spectrum at several hundred KeV are thermal. This would constrain the emission to come from radii much smaller than in models that invoke emission from an optically thin region. It is argued that the fast variations of order milliseconds in the time profile is a natural expectation, given the other observed GRB parameters. Analytic calculations are presented to show that the escape of non-thermal, energetic gamma rays can emerge within a second of the thermal photons from a gammasphere of below 10 cm.

Can Fireball Models Explain Gamma Ray Bursts?
The observed afterglows of gamma ray bursts, in particular that of GRB 970228 six months later, rule out spherical explosions powered by mergers or accretion induced collapse of compact stellar objects in galaxies as the origin of Gamma Ray Bursts. They can be produced by superluminal jets from such sources.
متن کاملCan Fireball or Firecone Models Explain Gamma Ray Bursts?
The observed afterglows of gamma ray bursts (GRBs), in particular that of GRB 970228 six months later, seem to rule out relativistic fireballs and relativistic firecones driven by merger or accretion induced collapse of compact stellar objects in galaxies as the origin of GRBs. GRBs can be produced by superluminal jets from such events.
متن کاملTesting the Fireball/blastwave Model by Monitoring Afterglows from Soft Gamma Repeaters
The popular fireball/blastwave model of classical γ-ray bursts is applied to soft γ-ray bursts. It is found that X-ray afterglows from strong events may be above their quiescent levels for 40 − 400 seconds. Optical afterglows may also be detectable. By monitoring the three repeaters, we will have an ideal way to check the fireball/blastwave model.
متن کاملEfficiency of Electron-Positron Pair Production by Neutrino Flux from Accretion Disk of a Kerr Black Hole
Dominant processes of neutrino production and neutrino-induced ee -pair production are examined in the model of a disk hyper-accreting onto a Kerr black hole. The efficiency of plasma production by a neutrino flux from the disk, obtained for the both cases of presence and absence of a magnetic field, is found to be no more than several tenths of percent and, therefore, not enough for the origin...
متن کاملThe effect of neutrinos on the initial fireballs in gamma-ray bursts
We investigate the fate of very compact, sudden energy depositions that may lie at the origin of gamma-ray bursts. Following on from the work of Cavallo and Rees (1978), we take account of the much higher energies now believed to be involved. The main effect of this is that thermal neutrinos are present and energetically important. We show that these may provide sufficient cooling to tap most o...
متن کاملThe Fireball Shock Model of Gamma Ray Bursts
Gamma-ray bursts are thought to be the outcome of a cataclysmic event leading to a relativistically expanding fireball, in which particles are accelerated at shocks and produce nonthermal radiation. We discuss the theoretical predictions of the fireball shock model and its general agreement with observations. Some of the recent work deals with the collimation of the outflow and its implications...
